A 40th anniversary showing of The Thing returns to many theatres with a higher quality version on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.
The film was previously shown in theatres on June 29 and 22, but many customers complained about poor quality. The sponsor of the theatrical showing, Fathom Events, said they have fixed the problems and are re-showing the film on July 6.
Many viewers posted complaints on the Fathom Events Facebook Page, shown below (click below to read the comments).
Fathom Events posted this apology:
“Dear Fathom Fans, Your patronage and trust are of utmost importance to us. We know you come to theaters expecting the very best experience possible and we pride ourselves on being the provider of that experience,” Fathom Events said.
“We are aware that the recent showing of The Thing wasn’t shown in its original aspect ratio and the disappointment it caused. Wednesday’s scheduled event will be shown in the proper aspect ratio, so you can see the film in theaters, as it was meant to be seen. Thank you for your patience and trust in us to bring you the very best in event cinema experiences.”
The Thing, originally released in 1982, teamed director John Carpenter with star Kurt Russell plus incredible visual effects to create a chilling version of the classic The Thing. Set in the winter of 1982 at a research station in Antarctica, a twelve-man research team finds an alien being that has fallen from the sky and has remained buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Soon it is unfrozen and unleashed, creating havoc and terror as it changes forms and becomes one of them. This special event will also feature the Terror Takes Shape documentary.
To mark the 40th anniversary of the film, it was shown in many theatres on Sunday, June 19 and Wednesday, June 22, 2022. A higher quality version of the film will be shown on Wednesday, July 6.
The Thing has an 8.2 rating on IMDB. For tickets and more information visit:
