Cicely Tyson, who died Thursday at age 96, is the subject of a TCM Tribute on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Turner Classic Movies will show two of her top films on Sunday night:
8:00 PM Sounder (1972)
10:00 PM A Man Called Adam (1966)
Tyson, who was born in East Harlem on December 19, 1924, died on Thursday, January 8, 2021.
In a career spanning more than seven decades, Tyson became known for her portrayal of strong African-American women. She gained critical and popular acclaim for her starring role in Sounder, a 1972 film about a family of black sharecroppers in 1933 Louisiana. She was nominated for both the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her work in the film.
