The Duchess of Cornwall today introduced the second book in her Reading Room, an online book club where you can participate in reading and discussing four books.
The current selection is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. This novel is a blend of mystery, murder, and nature, set in rural Eastern North Carolina in the 1950s. It revolves around a young woman named Kya Clark but known by locals as the Marsh Girl, as she lives alone in the marshlands.
“All is not as it seems in this beautifully written, heart-breaking coming-of-age novel. I couldn’t put it (or my handkerchief) down,” the Duchess wrote.
The Duchess (Camilla, wife of Prince Charles) announced the launch of The Reading Room on Instagram earlier this month. The first book in the series was The Mirror & The Light by Hilary Mantel. The current choice, Where the Crawdads Sing, will be featured and discussed now through February 11, 2021.

“To me, reading is a great adventure. I’ve loved it since I was very small and I’d love everybody else to enjoy it as much as I do,” the Duchess said in her announcement of the club on Facebook.
“You can escape and you can travel and you can laugh and you can cry. There’s every kind of emotion that humans experience in a book.”
The Duchess said that the titles will be highlighted for two weeks on the Instagram account @duchessofcornwallsreadingroom, which will feature information about each book and its author.
