PBS is airing a new documentary series on the legacy and future of the Metropolitan Museum on Fridays now through June 4, 2021. You can also stream the episodes anytime.
At 9/7c on May 21, May 28 and June 4, 2021, PBS will broadcast “”Inside the Met,” a three-part series that goes behind the scenes as the largest art museum in the Americas plans its 150th anniversary and responds to the coronavirus pandemic and calls for social justice,
Episode 1, “The Birthday Surprise,” opens in 2019 as The Met prepares for its 150th anniversary, then shifts to 2020 as the Coronavirus pandemic hits and the museum shutters its doors.
“The future seems limitless for The Met until the coronavirus pandemic shuts down New York City and the world, forcing the museum to close its doors indefinitely for the first time in its history. A skeleton staff battles to protect 1.2 million precious objects while executives face losses approaching $150 million, revealing the new reality inside this storied art institution,” says the show description.
The May 18 episode, Medical Drugs, focuses on medical innovations that combat illness directly, particularly antibiotics, and the development of antiviral drugs for HIV.
