A new Beatles song, featuring John Lennon’s vocals from 50 years ago, George Harrison’s guitar from 1995, and new additions from Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, was released today, Thursday, November 2, 2023.
The song is Now and Then. It began as a demo recorded in the 1970s by Lennon, featuring his vocals and piano. Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, gave the recording to the surviving Beatles in 1994 but only recently was the technology available to separate Lennon’s voice from the piano and produce a high-quality track.
“There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear. It’s quite emotional,” said McCartney.
Ringo Starr said, “It was the closest we’ll ever come to having him back in the room, so it was very emotional for all of us. It was like John was there, you know. It’s far out.”
Paul and Ringo recorded new tracks for the song and added previously recorded music from George Harrison. The completed song will be released on November 2, 2023.
“We all play on it, it’s a genuine Beatles recording,” said McCartney.
“In 2023 to still be working on Beatles music, and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard, I think it’s an exciting thing.”
