Critics remarked that the show was hampered by uneven production values and amateurish performances in some cases. The NY Post called the show “insufferable” and a night of “narcissism.”
However, the event did raise $55.1 million for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and $72.8 million for local and regional charities responding the pandemic, said its main organizer, Global Citizen.
One World: Together At Home was a live televised special organized by Global Citizen, the World Health Organization and music and film star Lady Gaga. It was broadcast live on Saturday, April 18, 2020 starting at 8 pm ET on ABC, NBC and CBS. The live broadcast was also shown on multiple streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
It included appearances and performances by today’s top entertainers, including Alicia Keys, Céline Dion, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez, LL COOL J, Paul McCartney, Matthew McConaughey, Oprah Winfrey, Pharrell Williams, the Rolling Stones, Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, Usher, Victoria Beckham, and more.
The broadcast was hosted by Jimmy Fallon of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel of Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Stephen Colbert of The Late Show; meanwhile, friends from Sesame Street were on hand to help unify and inspire people around the world to take urgent action against COVID-19.
